What a day!
On Saturday, June 11th, I was up at 5 a.m. and travelling to Birmingham with a suitcase full of books to be signed at the Four Brits Book Fest. I will admit, I was extremely nervous about attending this signing. Not only is it one of the biggest that's taken place so far in the UK, but it's also the first signing I've ever attended. Numerous times the introvert in me kept trying to get me to sell my tickets and drop out of going. And considering I bought my tickets late last year, it gave me at least eight months to ignore that part of me.
However, there were a few reasons I refused to sell my tickets, and I'm so glad I pushed myself out of my comfort zone for this event.
The first is that the entire atmosphere surrounding FBBF has been one of the best I've ever seen. The group of people Jo and Holly (the organisers) managed to pull together were amazing. I have honestly never witnessed a group filled with such generosity and love. Even if I find it hard to be active on social media groups, just reading the posts was enough to make bad days better--and that was months out from the event.
The second reason was the authors Jo and Holly managed to pull in. There were a lot of big indies who I adore attending. Considering a lot were from the USA or Australia, I never thought I'd get the chance to meet them. However, this event brought a lot of my favourites all to an event an hour outside my home town! EEK!
Yes, I fangirled--inwardly of course, because you know ... introvert and socially awkward person here.
Photos in order (left to right): R. J. Prescott, Laura Carter, Samantha Towle, Rachel Van Dyken, Brittany C Cherry, Natasha Preston, R. S. Grey. (I forgot to get a photo with Rachel Brookes)
Anyway, I have looked up to and admired these authors for a long time, especially Samantha Towle and Rachel Van Dyken. R. J Prescott has also recently become one of my favourites and if you stopped by my Bet On Me Facebook Party you would have seen her takeover. Meeting them finally was a pleasure and everyone was so nice.
I did end up ducking out a few hours before the end of the event because it became a bit too much--sorry, I can only handle 500+ people in one room for so long! However, I caught most of the event and managed to get all but 3 of my books signed. I even caved and bought four more while I was there ... because you know ... signed books, hot cover models .... sigh.
I'm off to recover now, since my arms are still aching from hauling all of those books around.
Happy reading everyone!
